Our Pastors
Lead Pastor (Gil) & Worship Pastor (Marketo)
Gil and Marketo Michel are the founding pastors of That Church Downtown, an inner-city church in South Bend, IN.
​
That Church Downtown was planted in September 2013 to reach an unchurched population and created to be a place of authenticity and transparency and growth for those who seek to know Christ and be known.
​
Preaching the gospel for nearly thirty years, Gil has had a heart to see regional and city-wide revival by way of unity and prayer. He has been involved in the genesis of a number of these movements such as PURE Assembly, a prayer gathering held at Four Winds Field and the National Day of Prayer gathering held annually at Bethel College.
​
Marketo serves as Worship Pastor and has a heart to lead people into the presence of God through song and intimacy. Her calling to music ministry was birthed and stoked through a powerful encounter while attending a chapel service in Kuwait. This caused her to leave a lucrative career as an air traffic controller and seek God in developing a ministry in music by attending Wheaton College Conservatory of Music. Like her husband, Marketo is involved in several ministries, movements, and organizations for the sake of unity in the Church.

Our Affiliation
That Church Downtown is part of the Evana Network, a ministry community of pastors and churches with a heart to see lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our common ground is in Anabaptist and Mennonite theology and our common mission is to live out Jesus’ Great Commission to make and grow disciples.
